Notice from our Good Sams:
Letter
to the Editor, Participating Churches and the
Community (please share information)
With
heavy hearts and prayerful concern, the Good Samaritans of Fannin County cancel
Saturday and Monday events for the 2020 Labor Day Bar-B-Q
Weekend. Primary pandemic-related concerns include
increased supply and meat costs, the “protected age category” of our volunteer
base and difficulty maintaining social distancing in the park given numbers of
guests and volunteers. LDBBQ weekend is usually the primary
fundraiser for Good Sam’s Benevolent Fund that assists y/our Fannin County
neighbors in need.
On
Monday, what should have been the Fortieth Annual Labor Day Bar-B-Q chicken,
rib or sandwich plates served with music and fellowship will not be held for
the reasons stated above.
On
Saturday, our PIC-NIC-NAC in the Park offering arts, crafts, nonprofit and area
information booths and the classic car show will not take place this
year.
On
Sunday, however, Good Samaritans will host their annual Interdenominational
Worship Service at six pm. Stay after the service to enjoy the Ice Cream Social
graciously donated by the Dairy Queen of Blue Ridge. Pastors from
Good Sam participating churches take part in the interdenominational service
that is attended by parishioners, community and folks who are visiting in our
area. All are welcome and invited to come join in our LDBBQ
tradition of prayer, song, worship…..and ice cream!
Please
note that the service will not be in the park this year. The outdoor
service will be held on East First Street, in the First Baptist parking lot
across from the church with the stage shelter. The service will be
broadcast from the stage so folks may remain in their cars or bring lawn chairs
to sit in front of the stage.
All
that said, Labor Day Bar-B-Q Weekend without barbeque is just not
right! So, Good Sam volunteers will host a “drive thru” lunch
from 11:30 to 1:30 pm on Sunday at the Fannin County Senior
Center. Bar-B-Q sandwich plates, tea, and packaged desserts will be
available at no charge. Donations to the Good Sam Benevolent Fund
are especially welcome to help offset financial losses due to cancellations
noted above.
